We, at Jars of Clay, are passionate about supporting the work of The Beehive project in Kenya which is run by a local couple, Jane and Alan, who are from Wickham Market.
The Beehive is a refuge for child mothers and their children, transforming young lives through compassion, love and hope, built on Christian values.
Women and girls in Kenya are frequently exposed to sexual exploitation and abuse. If girls become pregnant, they can be chased away from their families and communities, forced to have life-threatening illegal abortions, beaten, or even killed.
The culture of silence and lack of resources for victims of sexual exploitation and abuse means that there is often no safety net in place to help child mothers. The Beehive was set up to fill this gap and support as many vulnerable girls as we can.
Based in Nakuru County, Kenya, the Beehive refuge uses a holistic approach to help child mothers on the road to recovery from trauma. By building safe, stable and loving homes which centre on traditional family values, we help the girls to become good mothers while ensuring they receive the care and support needed for them to complete their own childhood. Our carers support the girls and look after their children as they return to school or training to learn key life skills and grow into confident, happy and capable young women.
We try and do our bit to support the Beehive by selling the wonderful knitted goods that come from Buzzknits.
You too can support the Beehive by purchasing a Buzzknit for yourself or as a gift or further by direct sponsorship or giving.
